Burnley manager Brian Laws is ready to begin contract negotations with striker Jay Rodriguez.
Laws admits he is keen to tie the youngster down to a new long-term deal at Turf Moor.
The 21-year-old local boy is currently in the last year of his contract and the Championship outfit are keen to hold onto his services.
Rodriguez has been in impressive form this season and has already scored a couple of goals, including his first away goal in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Millwall.
Laws seems determined to reward Rodriguez with an improved deal, telling the club's official website: "We are mindful that he is coming out of contract.
"We spoke to him weeks ago about improving his contract.
"I said once we got this international break out of the way we will sit down with his agent and hopefully progress something with him because we want to keep him.
"He is young, he is a local boy and he loves the place. He's not going anywhere!
"I'm really glad I didn't bring anybody in because I think Jay could have been one of those who might have been overlooked that little bit longer.
"He has really jumped at his opportunity and showed that he has improved over the summer and has another edge to him now."
