Rangers boss Walter Smith hopes Kirk Broadfoot will be fit for their UEFA Champions League tie with Valencia tie but insists he has other options at his disposal.
The Light Blues have been boosted by scans that revealed the defender's foot injury was not as bad as first feared and the 26-year-old could feature in the crucial midweek clash at Ibrox against Los Che.
Broadfoot, who missed the weekend win over Motherwell, is integral to the more defensive-minded formation deployed by Smith in Europe.
But with the first Old Firm derby fast approaching on Sunday, the Gers tactician believes his side will be able to cope without the former St Mirren schemer if needs be.
"We have good news from the scan," Smith said. "He still has a little bit of bone bruising but nothing that should prevent him from training and playing so we will see how he is today after our training session.
"But certainly if he is not available for Wednesday's game he should be available for Sunday (against Celtic).
"If he is not fit it might cause us to have a rethink in terms of what we are going to do.
"But we are more hopeful of getting him now than we were the other day.
"Andy Webster is one option but we have Richard Foster as well and I could bring him in."
