U's stopper confident of promotion tilt

Colchester United defender Pat Baldwin insists that he is more than happy to play as the underdog in this season's promotion race. The likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton were touted as potential favourites for the League One title this year, which has allowed the U's to quietly go about their business so far this season. They have tasted defeat on just one occasion so far after 13 games, a feat only matched by QPR in the entire Football League, but too many draws has been their Achilles heel. However, Baldwin told skysports.com that confidence is gradually building within the squad that they have serious promotion credentials. "We have started very well because losing just one game in 13 shows how hard we are to beat," he said. "That run helped build a lot of confidence and hopefully we can take that into Saturday's game (at second-placed Bournemouth), which will be another tough match, but it will show where we are against another in-form side. "I think that we have got a very good team, with some quality players in, so we are pretty confident that we can match the best in this division. "There are some big clubs in this league this season and that has helped take a little bit of pressure off us."
