Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has backed goalkeeper Tim Krul to bounce back from his disappointing display against Arsenal.
The Magpies went down 4-0 to the Gunners in the Carling Cup on Wednesday and Dutch shot-stopper Krul put in an error-strewn performance.
Krul was partially at fault for Arsenal's opening goal on the stroke of half-time and then went on to concede three more after the break.
And with the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland approaching on Sunday, the pressure will be intensified at St James' Park this weekend.
However, Hughton believes Krul has the strength of character to bounce back and has every confidence in the 22-year-old.
"Knowing Tim as I do, the reason why he's been able to come into a Premier League side and perform the way he has is because he's a big character," Hughton told the Northern Echo.
"He won't be fazed by that (the mistake) in the slightest.
"I've just got a feeling Tim is someone who can put mistakes behind him. He plays in a position where goalkeepers are going to make mistakes.
"But Tim would not have got himself into the position he's in at the moment - being the first-team keeper at Newcastle - without having the qualities he's got.
"As a goalkeeper, you've got to be resilient, you've got to put mistakes behind you and look forward. I am very confident he will do that."
Newcastle have not picked up a home win since their demolition of Aston Villa back in August and will be keen to change that record against their local rivals.
