Cardiff boss Dave Jones has admitted Craig Bellamy thought he was 'carrying' the Bluebirds when he first joined the club.
The Wales international made one of the shock moves of the summer when he dropped down to the Championship to join his hometown club on loan from Manchester City.
Striker Bellamy was deemed surplus to requirements at Eastlands by Italian manager Roberto Mancini with several Premier League clubs all keen on his services.
But the 31-year-old elected to join the ambitious South Wales outfit, although Jones revealed at first he was attempting to lead the club into the top-flight single-handedly.
After a spell on the sidelines through injury, the Cardiff boss believes Bellamy now has a greater understanding of the skills and abilities of his colleagues, with the club currently top of the Championship standings.
He told the South Wales Echo: "Craig knows how important he is to the team, but the problem when he arrived was that he thought he was carrying the team.
"We were carrying him and he had to understand that the other players will help him as much as he helps them.
"Craig realised it early on, certainly when he was out injured, and gained appreciation of that.
"Before that he was so determined to do well for Cardiff he lost a bit of focus of what he was here for.
"Now he knows that we need him as much as he needs us. That goes for every player. We have a lot of good players at Cardiff City."
