West Brom defender facing six weeks on the sidelines

West Brom have been hit by the news that defender Jonas Olsson is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines. The Swedish centre-half suffered an Achilles injury during the 2-1 victory over Fulham on 23rd October and has not been able to train since. Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo has now confirmed that the former NEC Nijmegen man will not be back in action until December at the earliest. "With Jonas we're looking at a longer injury rather than a few weeks," Di Matteo told the club's official website.

Improve

"I'd like to hope it will be weeks rather than months for him. It's going to be around the five or six-week mark. "It's an injury where he can improve dramatically. But he's not going to be back within two weeks - that's for sure." Despite his injury setback, stopper Olsson has been pleased with Albion's start to the season. "It has felt very good so far," he added. "I have felt physically strong and as a team, we have played well. "It's sad to get injured when you are in good shape, it's really unfortunate." Di Matteo will at least be able to call on Spanish defender Pablo Ibanez against Manchester City on Sunday after the FA overturned the red card he received in the defeat by Blackpool. The Baggies boss added: "We feel the FA has applied common sense on Pablo and it's very good he is available for us on Sunday."
