Pablo Zabaleta has urged his Manchester City team-mates to concentrate on Sunday's Premier League game at West Brom rather than next week's derby.
Before Roberto Mancini's side can focus on their neighbours, who visit Eastlands on Wednesday, they must first travel to the Hawthorns to take on an in-form Baggies side.
Things have taken a turn for the worse for the Eastlands giants with three defeats in a row at the hands of Arsenal, Wolves and Lech Poznan.
The pressure is now mounting on the Italian manager who realises that a fourth defeat would be almost unthinkable.
Mancini has had to face reports of player unrest in the past week as well as questions over the enduring patience of the club's wealthy owners.
Full-back Zabaleta is aware the fixture at West Brom is now a major game in its own right.
"The Manchester derby is coming up but right now the most important match is West Brom," he said.
"We must keep our focus on that, because we really need to win it.
"Sometimes you lose games but losing three in a row is not good because you lose confidence. Now we have to be positive. We have to be ready for West Brom and for the derby next week."
The Argentine continued: "Now it is about focusing and believing in ourselves because if you see the squad we have, it is full of fantastic players.
"Everyone here - the players and the staff - know that we have to try and change something, and try to win the next game.
"The Poznan game is over and our focus now has to be on West Brom. We need to keep our heads up and focus on that.
"After three losses a win is vital to get confidence back.
"Everyone has to be positive and try to start winning again. We are all on the same side and just need a win."
