PSV midfielder would relish playing for Barcelona

Barcelona-linked Ibrahim Afellay admits he does not know where his future lies as he prepares to depart PSV Eindhoven. The Holland midfielder wants a fresh challenge after spending his whole career at the Dutch outfit. It was announced last month he will not be signing a new contract when his current deal expires at the end of the season, with the 24-year-old being linked to a host of Europe's top sides, among them Barca. While he admits he would relish playing for the Catalans, nothing as yet is decided so Afellay is simply concentrating on helping PSV win the Eredivisie.

Don't know

He told Catalan-based newspaper Sport: "I don't know anything. I only know what I've read in the newspapers on the internet, but I still don't know what my future will be because there are many options. "At the moment I don't think there has been contact between Barca and PSV. "It is a fantastic club, a club everybody knows, with a team who plays really attractive football and who are one of the greats. But I insist that I still I don't know anything about my future. "The only thing I can do is to continue training as always and play the best I know how with my team, which is still PSV." Afellay admitted he would love to play alongside Barca's World Cup-winning midfielders Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
Fantastic
"For any player it would be fantastic to play with these two players. They have a very high level, they are known throughout the football world. They are so good. But there is nothing, as I said before, so I prefer not to think about it," said Affelay, who did not know if his departure from PSV would come in January or next summer. "That's a good question. For the club maybe it would be best in January because they will be able to get some money for the transfer. "But it could also be a good option in June because our objective is to win the Eredivisie and for the team to play in the Champions League next season, which is also a great reward and allows you to earn a lot of money." One thing Affelay is sure about is that he wants a fresh challenge, adding: "Yes, that's clear. The time has arrived to leave in order to continue growing. PSV is my home, but I must take a step forward in my career and I'm ready."
