England defender Phil Jagielka missed training at Wembley on Tuesday morning due to suffering with a fever, while Jack Wilshere left the session early with a physio.
There was also a scare regarding Joe Hart in the build-up to Wednesday's friendly against France when the goalkeeper went down and hobbled off the pitch to receive treatment on a suspected back problem.
Concerned colleagues Ben Foster and Robert Green gathered round as Hart received treatment before the Manchester City keeper was helped off the field in obvious discomfort.
From the brief glimpses of Hart leaving the Wembley pitch it is difficult to see how he could be involved on Wednesday, which would almost certainly mean a rare start for Foster.
But the bad news for manager Fabio Capello was tempered by the fact that Newcastle striker Andy Carroll trained despite fears over his groin injury.
England have already seen John Terry, Ashley Cole and Gabriel Agbonlahor pull out of the meeting with Laurent Blanc's France.
Jagielka's illness will therefore be a concern for Capello as the Everton star was expected to earn a starting place alongside captain Rio Ferdinand in the heart of defence in Terry's absence.
The fitness of Arsenal midfielder Wilshere has yet to be confirmed after the youngster was led away down the Wembley tunnel during the preparation sessions on a cold morning on Tuesday.
Carroll's presence will be a major boost for Capello after Newcastle manager Chris Hughton previously said that he expected the striker to be forced to withdraw through injury.
It was anticipated he would return to the North East, but instead there was sufficient confidence in the player to keep him in camp, with a scan on Monday evening indicating he should come through training without a problem.
