Pablo Zabaleta believes Manchester City players must not become too distracted by possible signings in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old defender accepts that there will always be competition for places at Eastlands under manager Roberto Mancini.
Zabaleta produced an eye catching performance in the 4-1 victory against Fulham at the weekend, which was capped off by a spectacular goal - only his second in City colours since joining from Espanyol in 2008.
However, the Argentina international believes it is important for players to keep their feet firmly on the ground and concentrate on the next fixture against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday with City lying just three points behind leaders Chelsea.
He told Sky Sports News: "There is always speculation about new bids and the transfer window in January, but we have to try to focus on football.
"We have many players in the squad and it's difficult to play every single game.
"We have to accept this if you have the opportunity to play, you have to try to play your best.
"You have to know as well that with the number of quality players in the squad, everybody wants to play.
"So, I think it's best just to try and focus on the Premier League and try to win the next game away to Stoke which should be a great chance for us (to close the gap on the leaders)."
