Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic wants Wayne Rooney's contract saga putting in the past in a bid to help him move forward.
The England international initially stated he would not sign a new Old Trafford contract and would leave only to apologise for his stance and sign a lucrative long-term deal.
Rooney has recently been working on his fitness in the USA and capped his first start since the contract saga by scoring a decisive penalty against Rangers in midweek.
Vidic, who was rested for their UEFA Champions League game, felt Rooney looked hungry and now believes it is in the striker's best interests for everyone to move on from the episode.
"We have to forget what happened in the past," said Vidic.
"It is great news he has signed a new contract and will be part of Manchester United for the next few years.
"He showed on Wednesday that he is hungry to play for this club. He is hungry to score goals and had a few opportunities.
"It was important for his confidence that he got the penalty. He can build from that and the aim for him now is to achieve last season's form."
Meanwhile, United have announced a seven-figure sponsorship deal with leading computer accessory manufacturer Epson.
United confirmed the three-year contract this evening, confirming Epson as their official office equipment partner.
It is the latest in a succession of such deals as the Red Devils commercial staff have pursued a policy of bringing in global partners to maximise the value of the United brand.
Rumours had circulated last week Epson were actually on the brink of buying United, speculation Gill was happy to refute.
"Social media networks may make it easier to stay in touch with our fans but they don't get it right all the time," joked Gill.
