Pablo Zabaleta believes Manchester City have a great chance of winning the Europa League this term.
Second-placed City can progress from Group A into the round of 32 with victory over Red Bull Salzburg at Eastlands on Wednesday if Juventus suffer defeat against Lech Poznan in the group's other game.
Zabaleta reached the Uefa Cup final in 2007 with Espanyol - going on to lose to Sevilla - and the Argentine is convinced City can go one better and win the rebranded competition.
The 25-year-old, who is available to face Salzburg after suspension, said: "Can we win this competition? Yes, of course.
"No matter what some people say, throughout Europe this competition is seen as being prestigious. There are some great teams involved.
"The Europa League is a great chance to show we are capable of winning titles. We have to believe we have a great chance.
"It will be a difficult game against Salzburg but we have a strong possibility of being in the next round and that is our immediate aim."
December sees a busy fixture list for City with Roberto Mancini's side playing seven matches, including five in the league.
Zabaleta also believes fourth-placed City still have a chance of winning the Premier League title this term and must continue to grind out results.
He said: "We have a chance as Chelsea and Arsenal have been dropping points. We have great quality in the team and need to be positive this season.
"It will be difficult as the season is too long. In every game we have to take a chance of winning three points so we can stay near the top of the table.
"Tottenham are also doing well but we have to focus on ourselves. That is best. We have young players and a lot of players with experience in the Premier League. That is a strong mix."
