Watford boss plans talks over Taylor and Mutch

Watford manager Malky Mackay is hoping to extend the loan deals for Andrew Taylor and Jordan Mutch. Middlesbrough defender Taylor and Birmingham midfielder Mutch have impressed for the Hornets after moving to Vicarage Road in August. But with both set to depart in January, Mackay is unsure whether their respective parent clubs will be open to extending their stay. "They have both settled in very well at the football club, but extending their stay is something we will need to address closer to January," he told skysports.com. "We will need to speak to both clubs about them in the next few weeks because they have their own issues to sort out."

Activity

Mackay is keen to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window, but knows that finances will dictate what he can do. The Hornets are one of the surprise packages in the Championship this season, with Mackay's young troops steering the Hertfordshire club within touching distance of the top six. However, with the average age of the squad standing at just 23, Mackay confirmed that he is keen to bolster his party where possible in January. "Transfer activity in January will depend on what finances are available at that point, he said. "We will certainly be looking to recruit and we are monitoring a number of players at the moment, as we always are, but finances will dictate whether we can act on any of those avenues. "I'd like to bring in reinforcements because I've got a very small squad and it is essential to keep everyone fit, especially the more experienced players, because after them we have only got youngsters to step up to the plate."
