Gary O'Neil thinks that manager Tony Mowbray could use the winter transfer window to make his mark at Middlesbrough.
The former Celtic boss succeeded Gordon Strachan at The Riverside at the end of October and has been working with an inherited squad since that time.
Boro have yet to find consistency under Mowbray and a run of one win in their last six games has left the former Premier League club reliant upon goal difference to stay out of the Championship relegation zone.
O'Neil therefore expects Mowbray to ask Boro chairman Steve Gibson for some money to spend in January in order to shape his squad in his own image.
"I just think we should try and get players that can do what the new gaffer wants them to do," the midfielder told Sky Sports News.
"Obviously this manager has got different ideas to the old one, so he might need some different players to implement his ideas."
