West Bromwich Albion expect to have striker Peter Odemwingie available for the Boxing Day trip to Bolton Wanderers.
Odemwingie missed the Baggies' last match against Aston Villa due to a calf injury and would also have been ruled out of last Sunday's postponed derby with Wolves.
He has also struggled with a knee injury this season, but the Nigerian is in contention to return for the game at the Reebok Stadium at the weekend.
Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo feels Odemwingie has benefited from the recent break and intends to call on his top scorer against Bolton.
Di Matteo confirmed: "I think it's unlikely that Peter would have made the Wolves game but he will be fine for Boxing Day.
"The lay-off has also helped his knee to clear up fully."
Odemwingie has netted six times since his move from Lokomotiv Moscow, but Di Matteo will still look to strengthen in the striking department during the transfer window.
He said: "If I can, I would like to bring in one player to improve the squad. People will be right if they assume it is a striker."
Di Matteo is hoping central defender Jonas Olsson will soon be fit to return from his long-term Achilles problem and he is stepping up his rehabilitation work.
He said: "Our target with Jonas is early to mid-January. He is progressing slowly and hopefully we will know more next week.
"We are increasing his training this week to see how he reacts."
