Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes admits Harry Redknapp has warned the players they must improve defensively if they are to challenge for the title.
Spurs currently find themselves in fifth spot, seven points behind league leaders Manchester United having played a game more.
Redknapp believes his side can be contenders for the championship, but accepts they must tighten up at the back if they are to keep pace with their rivals
Gomes revealed they are working hard on trying to improve their defensive record, but insists they will not stop their attacking approach.
"The manager has told us to show more intensity in defence and to try and defend better and not concede," Gomes told The Mirror.
"We work on it every day in training, trying to improve because the manager is ambitious and wants us to be successful. We know what we have to do to win trophies.
"We will always go to attack and now we have to demonstrate as a team that we can be strong in defence and dangerous in attack.
"I am now enjoying my football. The manager has been great for me, the defence has confidence in me, I have confidence in them and it's good to be playing for such a great club like Tottenham."
Spurs visit Aston Villa on Boxing Day and Gomes knows they need to pick up points during the busy festive period to close the gap on their rivals.
"It's an important time for us to get results and win games and hopefully we can do that for the rest of the season," added Gomes.
"We've got a difficult game at Aston Villa. They are always dangerous in their own stadium but we believe we can win there."
