Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is confident Andy Carroll will be fit to take on Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Tuesday.
Striking ace Carroll secured his 11th Premier League goal of the season during the Magpies' 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Boxing Day, putting him just two behind Manchester United hitman and current top-scorer Dimitar Berbatov.
However, the England international appeared to pick up an ankle knock during the St James' Park clash after falling awkwardly.
But manager Pardew, who will be without captain Kevin Nolan for the trip to North London due to suspension, is optimistic over the 21-year-old's recovery.
Pardew told The Chronicle: "He's fine. I'm sure he'll be okay.
"He's a bit of a warrior, but we've got to be careful because he's a key player."
Pardew could hand Wayne Routledge another start at White Hart Lane after the winger impressed against City before being substituted 30 minutes from time.
He added: "I said to him, you get a chance because our shape needs to make sure the centre of the pitch needs to be protected against this sort of opposition.
"But you need to be more offensive and get crosses in and be proactive.
"I thought he was, and unlucky to get subbed."
