Ally McCoist is 'very hopeful' that Steven Naismith can shake off a hamstring injury to be fit for Rangers' Old Firm derby with Celtic on Sunday.
Naismith suffered the problem during the Boxing Day win at Motherwell and was rated doubtful for Wednesday's postponed game against St Johnstone.
The midfielder is making positive progress in his recovery and Gers assistant manager McCoist is keeping his fingers crossed that Naismith will be available to face Celtic at Ibrox.
"It was a little bit worrying watching Naismith pulling up at Fir Park but it hopefully looks to be just a spasm," said McCoist.
"It's a bit early to say he will be 100% for the Celtic game but we are very hopeful he will be involved."
While Rangers also look set to be boosted by the return of James Beattie and Kyle Lafferty, Celtic will be without captain Scott Brown following his red card against Motherwell on Wednesday night.
However, McCoist refused to read too much into the potential personnel problems of Celtic, adding: "I don't think that will be a massive problem for them.
"They've a got couple of lads away on international duty as well and one or two longer-term injuries, with Shaun Maloney and Gary Hooper being out.
"It's a massive game. I've listened to the noises coming out of Celtic Park at the moment and they are well up for it. We are really looking forward to it.
"We played particularly well in the first game at Celtic Park. I wouldn't say we won it comfortably but we won it well and we are looking to do the same again."
