Chris Smalling was delighted to make his first Premier League start for Manchester United in the win over Stoke.
The Red Devils went three points clear of the chasing pack thanks to goals from Javier Hernandez and Nani.
Dean Whitehead equalised for Stoke in between as Sir Alex Ferguson's side were made to work hard for their win and Smalling was delighted to have played his part.
He told Sky Sports: "I really enjoyed it. We knew it was going to be a good physical battle and I enjoyed it out there and it was nice to get the three points, that's the main thing."
Smalling, who had started in the top flight with previous club Fulham, added that Ferguson had given him a hint on Monday he would be playing from the start for United against the Potters.
"I've played a lot of cup competitions (for United), it was nice to try and make my mark on the Premier League with this club," he said.
"They're going to need to keep on winning so it's great to have played my part."
Smalling also said that United knew it was going to be hard against the Potters and they were disappointed to have conceded a goal.
"I think it was quite a sloppy goal, I'm not too sure what happened on that back post but in the end we got the three points and that's the main thing," he explained.
He now hopes the Red Devils can push on and win a record-breaking 19th league title.
"We're unbeaten and keep winning games and I think coming out of this Christmas period, it was a hectic period, we've got enough points to really cement ourselves at the top and now hopefully we can kick on," said Smalling.
