Manchester United's Patrick Evra has revealed the key to a solid defence is good communication.
The diminutive full-back is regarded as one of the best in the world and has recently celebrated five years at Old Trafford.
His outspoken opinions on the game and top-class displays for United have made him a fans' favourite at the Premier League leaders.
It is also no coincidence that his five-year stint has coincided with one of United's most successful spells in which they have garnered an array of trophies.
During that time, Old Trafford has been illuminated by the expansive attacking talents of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes and Dimitar Berbatov.
Yet, all their undoubted brilliance would have been negated without a solid defence, especially the one that went 14 games in the 2008/09 campaign without conceding a goal.
Despite being inconsistent this year, United are still unbeaten, which again is down to a solid defence that communicates.
"We talk a lot," Evra told MUTV.
"I like that. Nemanja Vidic will always tell me whether I'm doing the right things or not. It is what I want him to do.
"He must keep me alive. There are times when I have to help him as well, if the striker is on his back for instance.
"But Vida is always explaining, before games and training. He tells me how my opponents play. It is so important."
Evra will hope that his team-mates maintain their levels of communication at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
United boast a superb record there, as they have not been beaten at that ground since 2001, and have won seven of their games there and drawn two.
