Lionel Messi has dismissed criticism over winning his second successive World Player of the Year and is only focusing on his football.
The Argentine superstar also won the Ballon d'Or for the second time, but was expected to miss out on one award to Spanish World Cup winners and Barcelona team-mates Xavi or Andres Iniesta this time around.
Some of the media were disapproving of the decision, claiming that Xavi and Iniesta's international achievements made them more deserving of at least one of the awards.
However, Messi is not bothered about the critics, saying that he has nothing to prove to anybody.
"The truth is I don't care what the media say," he told goal.com.
"What matters to me is what my team-mates say, the people who are with me. I thank them for their support.
"I don't have to vindicate myself to anyone. I did the same thing I have been doing up to now; I will try to carry on playing good matches and will try to help my team as much as I can."
