Defender pens contract extension with Yellow Submarines

Joan Capdevila has penned a new two-year contract with Villarreal, keeping him at the club until 2013. The Primera Liga confirmed a deal had been struck on Wednesday following discussions with the player and his representatives. Capdevila has been part of the set-up at El Madrigal since 2007, making well over 100 appearances for the Yellow Submarines. During that time he has also been part of successful Spain squads at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup. He has now earned 56 caps for his country and remains a key figure in Vicente del Bosque's plans heading forward. Capdevila, who will turn 33 on 3rd February, will be hoping that his performances at domestic level allow him to be part of the Spain side at the 2012 European Championships.
