Reading director of football Nick Hammond has quashed reports that West Brom have made a bid for captain Matt Mills.
The 24-year-old defender is highly rated at the Madejski Stadium and skysports.com revealed on Tuesday that the Baggies had made an enquiry for the centre-half.
Mills made the move to the Berkshire club from Doncaster Rovers in 2009 and following some impressive displays in the Championship this term, a number of Premier League clubs are thought to be tracking him.
However, Hammond insists that Reading have received no offers for their skipper from West Brom.
"That's news to me," he told the Reading Evening Post when asked about the speculation.
"I've heard nothing from West Brom."
Mills began his career at Southampton before moving on to Manchester City and has had loan spells at Coventry, Bournemouth and Colchester.
The Royals have cover in central defence should Mills depart, with Alex Pearce, Ivan Ingimarsson, Zurab Khizanishvili, Ian Harte and new signing Sean Morrison all accomplished in that position.
