Leeds United winger Lloyd Sam insists his challenge on Hull City's Liam Rosenior was a 'complete accident'.

The pair collided on the edge of the Whites' penalty area in the closing stages of Tuesday's clash at the KC Stadium, which ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

Hull defender Rosenior needed lengthy treatment before departing on a stretcher and the club are awaiting results of an X-Ray on his neck.

Tigers manager Nigel Pearson called the incident a 'coward's challenge' from Sam, but the 26-year-old midfielder denies any intent.

He said on his Twitter account: "It was unfortunate what happened to Rosenior last night, I never saw him coming then we collided and his injury looked bad...complete accident."

Despite Sam's claim, though, Pearson was convinced after the final whistle that it had been a malicious challenge from the Leeds man.

Asked about Rosenior's condition, he remarked: "We don't know yet but I'm not happy about the challenge.

"I've just seen it, I didn't realise how bad it was at the time but he's led with his arm. It's a bit of a coward's challenge, unfortunately."

Pearson added: "(It's the) neck, so we'll have to see how he is. He's conscious now - shocking challenge."
