Daniel Ayala admits Derby County 'stood out' from several clubs keen to sign the Liverpool defender on loan.
The Spaniard finalised his move to Pride Park last week after spending three months on loan at Championship rivals Hull City earlier in the season.
He was being chased by other second tier clubs, but the 20-year-old is confident he has made the right choice in joining the out-of-form Rams.
"There were other clubs who were interested in me, but of all of them, Derby stood out," Ayala told the club's official website.
"Nigel Clough was very supportive and was very clear he wanted me to join."
A hamstring injury delayed Ayala's arrival at Derby and he is now pushing for his first start after making a late substitute's appearance in Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Leicester City.
He added: "I was disappointed not to sign a few weeks ago because the doctor at Liverpool said I was ready to play, but it turned out I wasn't quite ready.
"I am fine now. I played for Liverpool reserves last week and I also played for a short while on Saturday so, if Nigel Clough picks me, I am ready."
