Tottenham's players cherished the feeling of a 'great achievement' after beating AC Milan on Tuesday night.
Spurs produced a wonderful display in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie against the Serie A leaders at the San Siro.
Peter Crouch's late strike clinched a 1-0 victory but there were impressive performances throughout the team as defence and midfield held firm.
The job is only half done but skipper Michael Dawson is confident Tottenham can prevail at White Hart Lane next month to advance to the quarter-finals.
"We knew it was going to be tough and we had a game plan which we stuck to," Dawson told Sky Sports News.
"Credit to the lads. It was a fantastic night and a great achievement.
"It was a dream to come here and win and going back to White Hart Lane we are in a great position."
Luka Modric, who made his return from appendix surgery as a second-half substitute, believes the game showed that Tottenham can compete with the very best teams in Europe.
"Unbelievable night," said the Croatian. "We showed today we were the better team and completely deserved to win."
Rafael van der Vaart and William Gallas also savoured the moment, lavishing praise on the way the team played.
"It is really difficult to win Champions League games away from home but we did fantastic and I am really proud," said Van der Vaart.
Gallas added: "It was not easy but we won 1-0 and I thought we played very, very well.
"We defended very well and on the counter-attack we scored a goal that was very important."
