Peter Lovenkrands has urged Newcastle to build on their victory over Birmingham which snapped a six-game run with a win.
The Magpies climbed to ninth in the table on the back of their 2-0 success at St Andrews on Tuesday night and now have a healthy eight-point cushion over the drop zone.
Lovenkrands set Newcastle on their way with his early opener before Leon Best added a second shortly after the interval.
The Danish forward had not found the net since the 5-0 romp against West Ham at St James' Park on 5th January, which was the last time Alan Pardew's men claimed all three points in a Premier league fixture.
And the forward believes Newcastle should use success in the Midlands as a springboard to further success, with Bolton's visit to the North East on 26th February their next challenge.
"For me personally it was great, and I needed that goal as well because it's been a while," he told the club's official website.
"I've been feeling good the last couple of games, I hit the crossbar against Blackburn and felt I was almost there. Thankfully today I was there.
"I was delighted to get one, but it was good for the team as well to get an early goal because it gave us confidence, got us settled in the game and got us going.
"It was a superb win and three points we needed. We came here and thought we could do it, especially after the good performance at Blackburn where we should have had the win but had to settle for a draw.
"But four points from the last two away games is great for us to build on and take us further up the table. Hopefully we can now go into some home games and get some more points."
