Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer insists he had no doubts about staying at Signal-Iduna-Park after signing a two-year contract extension.
The 23-year-old full-back's previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2012, but Dortmund were keen to end any uncertainty about his future.
With his club still runaway leaders in the Bundesliga, Schmelzer's contributory form has been acknowledged and there had been suggestions of a move elsewhere.
But the youngster wanted to stay and has signed terms which will keep him with Dortmund until 2014.
He said: "I am very pleased about the agreement with Dortmund, especially since I have never had any doubt that staying with Borussia Dortmund is my first choice."
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc believes keeping Schmelzer was vital to the team's long-term strategy.
"With Marcel Schmelzer, we have found another key player for the future of our team's long-term success," he said.
Zorc had previously confirmed that a delay in the contract extension of Schmelzer, who made his Germany debut against Italy earlier in February, was purely due to time constraints.
