Bristol City defender Louis Carey is confident he will play again this season after suffering a skull fracture against Scunthorpe United.
Carey believes he picked up the injury during a first-half aerial challenge with Scunthorpe striker Joe Garner, but was able to play the full 90 minutes of the 2-0 win.
A scan later confirmed the nature of the injury, although Carey has not given up hope of featuring for the Robins again before the season is over.
"I'll see a specialist this week to find out the full extent of my recovery time but I think it's going to be six weeks at least before I'm back playing.," Carey told the club's official website.
"At least it's not a leg or muscle injury, and during the latter stages of my recovery I'll be able to run and keep myself fit.
"I'm still determined to play again this season. Injuries happen and I just have to deal with it and take the right steps to recover."
Manager Keith Millen added: "It is very disappointing, we are going to be without him for some time. It is important we allow him that time to recover."
