Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross believes his recent performance against Arsenal could prove a pivotal point in his career.
The 23-year-old put in a solid show in front of England boss Fabio Capello last month, despite the Potters going down 1-0 to the Gunners.
Shawcross received a hostile reception from the home crowd in his first appearance at the Emirates since breaking Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey's leg last season.
The former Manchester United player utilised the atmosphere and motivated himself to the extent where he feels he may have reached a new level.
"It didn't hinder me at Arsenal, in fact I think it spurred me on and made me want to go out there and perform even better," Shawcross told the Daily Express.
"There is always going to be a villain in the pantomime and at Arsenal that's what I was.
"I suppose in time I might look back at that game and remember it was one in which I moved on another level.
"A few years ago it would have bothered me and put me off my game but I now know that in football these things happen and I have learnt from the experience."
