Marlon King must serve a four-match suspension after being sent off during Coventry's 4-1 defeat at home to Bristol City.
The striker was dismissed for an off-the-ball clash with Damion Stewart as the Sky Blues slumped to their heaviest loss of the season on Saturday.
Manager Aidy Boothroyd had no complaints about the decision to give King his marching orders, saying after the match: "If Marlon has raised his hand it gives him (the referee) no option and he has to go."
But having also been shown a red card against Ipswich on New Year's Day, it has now been confirmed that King will miss a third of Coventry's remaining Championship fixtures.
He will sit out Tuesday's trip to Doncaster as well as the games against Hull City, Burnley and Preston.
The length of the suspension comes as a real blow for a Coventry side who are sliding alarmingly down the standings and are now 19th - just six points off the drop zone - following one victory in 14 matches.
King is the club's leading scorer this season with seven goals in all competitions, six of which have come in the league.
