Bristol City manager Keith Millen insists there have been no approaches for Nicky Maynard and intends to discuss a new contract with the striker at the end of the season.
Maynard has been quick to make an impact since returning from a knee injury last month and has scored in each of his last three starts.
He has a further season to run on his contract and reports over the weekend claimed Everton and Liverpool were interested in the 24-year-old.
Several other Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Maynard, but Millen has played down talk that the former Crewe Alexandra youngster could leave Ashton Gate.
"There is always speculation and you cannot do anything about that," said Millen in the Bristol Evening Post. "But I'm surprised to have to answer so many questions about this at this stage of the season.
"It does not worry me, because I know there is nothing in it. In fact, I see it as a compliment. I want people to be talking about my players, because that means they are doing something right.
"We have not heard anything from Everton, Liverpool or any other club and, as far as I'm concerned, this is just newspaper talk. Sometimes agents put things out there and sometimes it's just gossip.
"He scored 21 goals last year and no-one came knocking on our door. I'm hoping it will be the same this summer, because we certainly don't want to lose him."
Millen added: "Hopefully, he will continue to score a goal a game and then we can sit down at the end of the season to discuss the future.
"Nicky has only been fit for two or three weeks, so it's still early days. But we don't want it to go into the final year without something having been sorted out."
