Olsson - Baggies can beat drop

Jonas Olsson believes West Brom have every chance of beating the drop after plugging their leaky defence.

Swedish centre-half confident Hodgson can steer club to safety

Jonas Olsson believes West Brom have every chance of beating the drop after plugging their leaky defence. The arrival of Roy Hodgson has coincided with a reversal in fortune for the Baggies at the back. Under previous boss Roberto Di Matteo goals were shipped with alarming regularity, resulting in a mid-season tumble down the Premier League standings. West Brom still have the worst defensive record in the top flight, but have displayed a new-found resilience over recent weeks. With the battle to avoid relegation set to go down to the wire, the dividing line between success and failure could come down to just a few goals here and there.

Solid

Keeping things tight is now more important than ever and Olsson hopes the Baggies can continue to move forward under Hodgson's tutelage. "We have looked more solid in the last few games and have been working a lot on our shape and organisation as a unit," said the Swedish centre-half. "I think that has shown in the last two or three games. "It can, of course, be better and we still want that clean sheet that we have been struggling for - but we are getting closer to it. "If we can just stay in the games and build from a solid defence, we have a great chance of staying up."
