Hull City manager Nigel Pearson is confident veteran midfielder Nick Barmby is capable of playing on for another season.
Barmby turned 37 last month, but has made 32 appearances for the Tigers this season, albeit mostly as a substitute.
He combines his playing duties with some coaching at the KC Stadium and had been tipped to retire at the end of the current campaign.
However, Pearson is keen to have the former England international at his disposal next term and sees no reason why Barmby cannot carry on.
"Absolutely, yes," said Pearson in the Hull Daily Mail when asked if he wanted Barmby to continue playing next season.
"He'll be in the squad next year, there's no doubt about that. He'll be in the staff for sure and in the squad as well.
"I for one don't see any reason why a number should affect a player's mentality.
"If a player is unable to perform, that's a different matter, but age should not come into it.
"As long as a player is able to affect a team positively, I don't see any problem with age."
