West Brom manager Roy Hodgson fears Graham Dorrans' ankle injury may be worse than first thought.
The 23-year-old midfielder picked up the knock during a training session earlier in the month and had been pencilled in for a return against Liverpool on 2nd April.
Boss Hodgson is still hopeful the Scotland international could face the Reds but is slightly concerned the injury is not recovering as quickly as expected.
"It's far too early to say how bad Dorrans is. It would be wrong to fear-monger," he told Albion's
official website.
"I thought his ankle looked okay before I went away, the swelling had gone down, but obviously that was me being too optimistic because he is still having problems.
"We are concerned as he still hasn't been able to put any weight on it. We were thinking Liverpool at the earliest and we are still thinking that.
"Our medical people will keep an eye on him and if there is no improvement later this week we will scan it again."
Meanwhile, fellow Baggies midfielder Youssuf Mulumbu is also struggling with a muscle injury and is a doubt for Saturday's meeting with Arsenal at The Hawthorns.
Mulumbu, 24, had only just recovered from a hamstring problem when he picked up a second injury in the victory over Birmingham 10 days ago.
Hodgson added: "He has suffered two muscle injuries, one after the other. We have concerns about him but hope he will train later this week and be fit to play against Arsenal."
