Sven-Goran Eriksson is hopeful Paul Gallagher, Richie Wellens and Andy King will sign new contracts.

Foxes boss looking to extend players' stay

Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is hopeful Paul Gallagher, Richie Wellens and Andy King will all sign new contracts this week. The first-team regulars have all made over 30 Championship appearances this term and have made telling contributions as City fight for promotion with nine league games left. King has a whopping 14 strikes in all competitions from midfield, Wellens has missed just one Championship start while Gallagher has a useful eight league goals. The trio have all been offered fresh terms and former England boss Eriksson believes the Foxes should do all they can to retain players who he labels as 'key' performers.

Hopeful

"I hope Paul, Richie and Andy will sign new deals later this week," said Eriksson in the Leicester Mercury. "I think the club should do whatever they can to keep these three players because, in one way or another, they have been key players for us, scoring goals and playing good football. "Richie is not the best goalscorer but he is a great football player. The other two have scored some good goals. "They are also good characters to have around. Paul and Richie have been here for two years, and Andy has come through the youth, so they know the club well."
