Midfielder signs for Addicks until end of the season

Chris Powell believes Michael Stewart is just the type of midfielder Charlton Athletic needed to add to the squad. Skysports.com revealed on Tuesday that Stewart had signed a deal at The Valley until the end of the season after impressing Powell during training. The Scotland international had been a free agent after leaving Turkish side Genclerbirligi and Powell is happy to have secured Stewart on a short-term basis. "He's signed until the end of the season," Powell told the club's official website. "I just felt that, with him being unattached, it was an attractive deal in itself. "He's come to bolster the squad. He's a bit of everything. Jose [Semedo] has played every game and we don't have another player of that ilk. "I felt we needed that sort of strong midfielder in there and he comes into that category." Stewart was not signed in time to make his debut in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Southampton, but will be in the squad for Saturday's trip to Bournemouth.
