Steven Thompson is winning his fitness fight and is nearing a return to boost Burnley's play-off push after the international break.
The forward has been sidelined since the end of February after undergoing surgery to clear up a groin infection relating to a previous injury.
Clarets boss Eddie Howe originally feared the former Cardiff player would miss the rest of the season but, after stepping up his recovery programme, the Scotland international could resume full training soon.
"Thommo is way ahead of schedule. He is looking good at the moment," Howe told the club's official website.
"We thought Thommo would be gone for the season but we are now hopeful we can get him back before then."
Midfielder Dean Marney is making good progress from the knee injury but Northern Ireland forward Martin Paterson is unlikely to feature again this season due to a second serious thigh injury.
Howe added: "Pato is coming along well but is probably along the lines that we thought. Dean Marney is improving all the time so it's good news on the injury front.
"Chris McCann is still training and working hard and hopefully he will have a game soon."
