Aston Villa goalkeeper Andy Marshall has confirmed he is poised to sign a new contract with the Premier League club.
Marshall initially joined Villa in 2009 and, after being released last summer, returned to sign a fresh one-year deal in September.
However, the 35-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance for Villa and had been third-choice until Brad Guzan's loan move to Hull City.
The experienced shot-stopper is now providing the back-up to Brad Friedel on the bench and is realistic about his situation at Villa Park.
"I'm just about to sign a new contract so it is very pleasing because I really enjoy being at this football club," said Marshall.
"It can be frustrating (being back-up goalkeeper) but I've gone from number three to number two.
"It will be hard to dislodge Brad Friedel who has been phenomenal and it will take an injury, not loss of form.
"It's not being defeatist, it's being realistic."
