Fabricio Coloccini has challenged his Newcastle team-mates to reach 40 points and secure their Premier League status.
The Magpies are currently 11th in the table but the congested nature of the division means they are just four points clear of the relegation zone.
Most observers normally have 40 points as the tally needed to maintain your top-flight status and Coloccini seems to be of a similar mindset.
Newcastle have endured a poor period of form, winning just one of their last nine games, but they have eight matches of the campaign left to reclaim their form.
When the Premier League resumes next week after the international break, Newcastle will entertain Wolves.
Mick McCarthy's men are third from bottom in the league but are just four points adrift of Newcastle - illustrating just how competitive the league is.
"The table has become very close and the Wolves game is a very important game for us now," Coloccini told The Journal.
"I think we need two more wins to make sure we are safe. Looking at the table, five or six more points will probably do it, so we still need two wins.
"There are plenty of games to get them from but it would be a massive help if we could get one of those wins against Wolves.
"If we could get the points quickly it would calm everybody's nerves. Our only job is to make sure we keep ourselves safe."
