Blackburn linked with Spanish prospect

Spanish starlet Baena, who has been watched by Blackburn, insists he is happy to stay with Espanyol as long as they want him. The 22-year-old was a product Barcelona's youth academy, but he left as an 18-year-old and joined city rivals Espanyol. He wasted little time in becoming a first-team regular and he is now attracting a huge amount of interest. Italian side Roma tried to sign him in January, and now Blackburn are being strongly linked with a possible move in the summer. The Premier League club had a scout at Espanyol's game with Malaga on Sunday, with reports claiming Baena was the reason for their visit to La Rosaleda. The player's agent has confirmed to skysports.com that there is interest from England. "There are chances for him, the option of the Premier League is true," Horacio Gazzoli said. "He is capable of playing in any league, but Espanyol does not want to sell, we will speak with them at the end of the season. "He is happy at Espanyol, but every player dreams of progressing." The player himself has just been called into Spain's Under 21 squad, and he admits he is more than happy with life at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat. "I am very happy and I just think about Espanyol," he told El Mundo Deportivo. "The coach gave me a great opportunity and I will continue here until they want me." Espanyol had to sell players in January with Victor Ruiz and Didac Vila both sold to raise finances, and many are predicting that Baena could go the same way this summer. "Everyone is making assumptions," he continued. "If that day came, then we would sit and talk about it but that is not something I am thinking about."
