Wolves striker damages ligaments on Ireland duty

Kevin Doyle could miss the rest of Wolves' battle to stay in the Premier League after suffering a knee injury during the Republic of Ireland's win over Macedonia. The striker was replaced just 20 minutes into Saturday's Euro 2012 qualifier and could now be sidelined for the next two months. Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni revealed that Doyle has damaged his medial ligaments and is facing a fight to return to action this season. "It's his medial ligament," said Trapattoni. "I think he may be out for one or two months, so it's a very serious injury. "But I hope by May or June, he can come back and we can have him for the match in Macedonia." If the extent of the injury is confirmed, Doyle's absence would be a major blow to Wolves' hopes of staying in the Premier League. Though Doyle has only scored five goals in the league this season, he is a vital cog in Mick McCarthy's plans to beat the drop.
