Philippe Mexes looks unlikely to move to the Premier League this summer after revealing he would prefer to stay in Serie A if he does leave Roma.
The French centre-back's current deal at the Stadio Olimpico expires in the summer and he has yet to agree an extension.
AC Milan have been heavily linked with a move for Mexes but have repeatedly stated they do not wish to disturb the player, and would only express an interest if he decides not to renew his Roma contract.
Other options would include embarking on a new challenge in England or returning to France, but the 28-year-old maintains that he is happy in Italy.
And Mexes has also stressed that he is not giving too much thought to his future at the present time.
"It's true that I'll be out of contract, but I am quite relaxed about the situation," he told newspapers in France.
Much to learn
"I will wait and then evaluate all proposals. I never said I'll go anywhere, but I'll make a decision over the next few months. There is no cut-off date.
"Milan? There is talk of that, but also of a renewal with Roma or a transfer to England.
"I have nothing in particular to add, other than to say that if I did leave Roma, I'd prefer to stay in Italy. I know Serie A well and they know me, certainly more so than in France.
"I have no interest in returning to Ligue 1, not even for a big club. It's nothing to do with money. I still have much to learn and already went around France with Auxerre."
