Arsenal won't appeal bans

Arsene Wenger and Samir Nasri have accepted suspensions for Arsenal's next Champions League game.

Wenger and Nasri accept punishment

Arsene Wenger and Samir Nasri will be suspended for Arsenal's next UEFA Champions League fixture after the club confirmed they would not be contesting Uefa sanctions. European football's governing body handed out the one-match bans, and a €10,000 (£8,800) fine to Wenger, after the pair were charged with 'inappropriate language' directed towards Swiss referee Massimo Busacca in the wake of Arsenal's controversial exit from the Champions League in Barcelona earlier this month. Busacca caused uproar by showing Robin van Persie a second yellow card for shooting at goal just one second after he had blown the whistle for offside, with the Dutch striker claiming he had not heard it due to the noise of the 95,000-plus crowd. Arsenal eventually went on to lose the tie and exit Europe at the hands of the Spanish giants for the second successive season.

Improper conduct

Wenger had originally insisted he would staunchly deny the charge and called on Uefa to show some 'humility', while comparing the organisation to a 'dictatorship'. Arsenal could have lodged a formal appeal, but the matter will now not be taken any further. A statement on the club's official website read: "Arsenal have decided not to appeal against UEFA bans for Arsene Wenger and Samir Nasri. "The manager and the midfielder were each suspended for one European match following charges of improper conduct in the wake of Arsenal's Champions League exit at Barcelona. "Wenger was also fined €10,000."
