Birmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson insists the players cannot use tiredness as an excuse for their poor league form.
City had to cope with a hectic fixture schedule during their triumphant Carling Cup campaign and they have dropped into the relegation zone after failing to pick up a win since last month's victory over Arsenal at Wembley.
But former Scotland international Ferguson believes modern footballers should be fit enough to handle the strain of a cup run and has called on the squad to produce a strong run in the closing games.
"It is a tough schedule but I am not going to use that as an excuse," Ferguson told the Birmingham Mail.
"I honestly don't believe that tiredness comes into it.
"This is what you do as a football player. You want to play in these sort of games and you realise that if you go on a cup run you are going to play extra games. It's what we are mentally and physically prepared for.
"Now the boys have had a week to go away and have a think and recharge the batteries and there are no excuses over the last seven weeks of the season."
