Jerome Thomas hailed his team-mates after West Brom beat Liverpool to give boss Roy Hodgson his first home win.
Hodgson was dismissed as Liverpool boss just three months ago and was promptly installed as the Baggies chief.
He has made an instant impression on the Midlands outfit as they are unbeaten in his opening five games, culminating in their first win over Liverpool in 30 years.
"It was a great win and to be honest we outplayed Liverpool," Thomas told the club's official website.
"We definitely deserved the win. We all work in the industry and know how much this game would have meant to the gaffer, especially with the way it ended for him at Liverpool.
"The work he has put into us, and the way he prepared us for the game, showed on the pitch.
"It was nice to get the win for him. He was all smiles after the game."
However, it was not just the result that pleased the former Inter Milan and Fulham chief, but the manner in which they played in order to obtain the result.
"But he did say even if we hadn't come in with the win he would have been pleased with the way we played," added Thomas.
"He said he'd never seen a Liverpool team concede so many chances. The lads were great - I can't praise them enough."
