Latics boss thanks chairman for not letting winger leave

Roberto Martinez is hopeful of keeping Charles N'Zogbia at Wigan next season - if the club remain in the Premier League. The 24-year-old Frenchman produced a stunning performance at Blackpool on Saturday which lifted the Latics out of the bottom three. And Martinez is thankful to chairman Dave Whelan for not letting the enigmatic winger leave for Newcastle in a potential £12million deal back in January. He told The People: "You have to give credit to the chairman. "We wanted to build on something and it was important to keep our experienced players within the group. "Charles has sensational talent. He can play, he can finish and his work-rate off the ball was outstanding. It was a mature display - and he is still only 24."

Talent

And asked about his chances of keeping the Frenchman, Martinez added: "It's impossible to tell right now. "But what is quite clear is that Charlie is a player that everyone loves to watch, because he has got sensational raw talent. "He is a huge asset as we all know and all I want is for Charlie to enjoy his football in every game that he plays."
