Lille director Frederic Paquet insists the Ligue 1 leaders have not struck a deal for Marko Basa.

No move made for defender, but Chedjou has penned new deal

Lille director Frederic Paquet insists the Ligue 1 leaders have not struck a deal for Marko Basa. The French outfit have been strongly linked with the Lokomotiv Moscow defender, as they seek a replacement for the Valencia-bound Adil Rami. Basa is understood to have a €1.5million release clause in his contract, which Lille are keen to trigger. They were reported to be interested in the Montenegro international last summer, but never made a move. Paquet claims that remains the case at present, with no agreement having been thrashed out for the former Le Mans centre-half. "No commitment has been made so far and no deal has been agreed with that player," he said in L'Equipe.

Meanwhile, Lille have tied one of the defenders currently on their books down on a new long-term deal. Cameroon international Aurelien Chedjou has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, keeping him at the club until at least 2015. "This proves that the club believe in me and that we can continue to grow together," Chedjou told the club's official website. "It is an honour for me and a source of great satisfaction. Now that the club have proven their confidence in me, it is up to me to keep performing on the pitch. My heart is with Lille. I will never forget the fact that they gave me my chance in the game." He added: "It is always important to know what kind of structure that the squad is going to have for the future. To see so many players extend their contracts means that we will be keeping the nucleus of a good squad. "We have all known each other for some time now, and that makes it much easier to work together."
