Midfielder suffers thigh strain

Inter Milan have revealed that midfielder Dejan Stankovic suffered a thigh strain in Saturday's clash with Lazio. The experienced Serbian picked up the injury in the second half of the 2-1 victory and had to be replaced by McDonald Mariga. He is now facing a spell on the sidelines, with reports in Italy suggesting it could be a three-week lay-off. Stankovic could therefore be back in action for the final league game of the season against Catania on 22nd May and the Coppa Italia final the following week should Inter progress past Roma. A club statement read: "The serious nature of the injury Dejan Stankovic picked up on Saturday, April 23 in the second half of Inter v Lazio was confirmed by the tests programmed by professor Franco Combi, chief of medical staff at FC Internazionale: a second-degree strain in the muscles of his left thigh. "The midfielder underwent his first physiotherapy session [yesterday], while the rest of the squad at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti resumed training after two days off."
