Billy Davies has indicated that he will seek to wrap up a permanent deal for Kris Boyd this summer.
The Nottingham Forest boss has been impressed by the burly striker since taking him on a short-term loan deal from Middlesbrough.
The Scotland international has netted six goals during his stay at the City Ground, including four in his last two outings.
It is that form which has convinced Davies that the former Rangers man may be deserving of a prolonged stay on Trentside.
He has stopped short of confirming that he will make a move at the end of the season, but admits he would welcome the opportunity to try and bring the best out of the 27-year-old.
"I don't think he will find his true sharpness until next season, but there is no doubt that he will score goals," Davies told the Nottingham Evening Post.
"He did it here again, against Scunthorpe [in a 5-1 win on Saturday]. His fitness is still not where it could be.
"But to get him to that, we would need to get him through a pre-season.
"However, we also know that strikers are all about scoring goals and that is exactly what he is doing. Hopefully, that will continue."
